About Us

Monthly Newsletter

A.S./A.P. was founded on October 1, 1992. We have responded to calls throughout Monroe County concerning animals in distress. As the county does not at present have a facility for cats, a great number of our calls have been to help with them. We work with the local veterinarians to care for the animals in medical need. Some of the local veterinarians help in the placement of strays with new owners.

Special Programs

  • Adoptions: Specializing in cats; other animals when available
  • Pet Therapy Visitation
  • Day Care Center Visitation
  • Animal education within the school systems when available
  • Problem Behavior Assistance
  • Active support of neuter/spay programs
  • Pet food pantry in conjunction with local human assistance pantries

Paws To Recycle

Paws to Recycle is an aluminum can recycling program for animal shelters sponsored by the American Humane Association (AHA), Friskies PetCare Company, and the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa). Participating Paws to Recycle shelters collect aluminum food and beverage cans (including all-aluminum cans from Friskies, Fancy Feast, and Mighty Dog products) throughout their communities and recycle them for cash. Shelters use the cash raised from recycling aluminum cans for needed operating funds and compete with other shelters for prizes. All participating shelters receive free dog and cat food from Friskies, and compete for one of four grand prize cash awards of $3,000 each. Shelters who do not win a grand prize are eligible for the "Wild Card" drawing where five shelters each can win a $500 prize!

1998 was our first year participating in the Paws to Recycle program. Thank you to everyone for donating your aluminum cans to our organization! We raised $142.97 and we now have a few people donating their cans to A.S./A.P. on a regular basis. We appreciate all of your help! Remember, this program not only benefits our animals, it also benefits the environment!

We are participating in the Paws to Recycle program again this year. If you would like to donate cans you may drop them off at the cattery, S & S Distributing in Sparta, or at Sherwood Forest Recycling in Tomah. There should be a Paws to Recycle sign indicating the designated area for the cans.
