McNairy County is fortunate to be located at the cross of two major highways 64 and 45. Highway 45 is the major north/south route that travels from the Gulf Coast to Canada connecting several Interstate Highways. Highway 64 is an east/west route across the state. McNairy County is located within 30 miles of I-40 in Jackson, Tennessee and within 100 miles of 1-55 in Memphis, Tennessee and only 65 miles from Tupelo, Mississippi. Whether a dash to a major city or for a leisurely afternoon drive through gently rolling hills dotted with fruit orchards and farms, recent travel upgrades have made travel easy and convenient.

Situated in Southwest Tennessee, McNairy County boasts of not only a wealth of agricultural resources, but also a healthy, growing business community. McNairy County has much to offer from major manufacturing facilities to easy access to neighboring cities and states. We are a community with an agriculture background and a diverse industrial base which equals to a hard working, trainable work force. Local industries have received national recognition and awards for quality and quantity production in local plants.

McNairy County has variety of recreational attractions. They range from the Selmer City Park to natural environmental parks such as Big Hill Pond State Park and Coon Creek Fossil Farm, to great battle fields such as Shiloh National Military Park. McNairy County has two golf courses, Selmer Country Club and Shiloh Golf Course in Adamsville, TN.

McNairy's schools are among the best in the state and it's college and vocational/technical institutions enhance the county's reputation for academic excellence. A center for Higher Education has been completed. Both college and industry training is available at this facility.

There are over 100 churches, representing all denominations and organizations in McNairy County including The United Way of West Tennessee and others like Lions, American Legion, Family Community Education and Volunteer Fire Departments. In 1996 McNairy County was the recipient of The Three Star Award for 
the sixteenth consecutive year. This award is presented to areas that the 
state deems economically prepared for growth and progress.  
McNairy County is the only county which has received this award 16 years 
in a row.
